Frances Noon
Silver Jewellery and small sculpture

Guest Artist

Based in Slaithwaite, West Yorkshire, Frances makes small sculptures of animals and birds where humour prevails and scale is exaggerated.

She uses jewellery techniques to shape and solder copper and brass, surface details are added by using decorative punches and in this way each character retains an individual look.

The metal components are then combined with a hand painted wooden part, it may be a simple plinth for a single animal or a more elaborate element to form woodland scenes, boats and  sheds.

Frances originally studied Fine Art Printmaking, in particular exploring intaglio methods. Her prints of people showed a fascination with ordinary activities interpreted with a hint of charicature and keen observation.

Today her work still exhibits these themes of observation and expression through her playful and whimsical animal characters.
